In the news this week was the introduction of a key recommendation from the Government’s Pet Theft Taskforce of a ‘pet abduction offence’. You can read about the Taskforce here.
With convictions for dog theft potentially carrying heavier sentences at court, the intention is that this will provide more of a deterrent to dog thieves.
The recommendations of the Taskforce also include streamlining the 16 different pet microchip databases into one, making it much easier to trace stolen animals.
Another sensible decision, although it will be interesting to see which database and who will be responsible for collating and maintaining it!
