Summer Holidays

An energetic Labrador, who is also jet black, can be a bit of a challenge when the weather is hot. Zeke doesn’t seem to notice at all, thankfully it’s not been too hot for morning walks.

Zeke has been patrolling the garden, keep an eye on all the birds tweeting in the bushes. All my dogs have loved this garden. Just as the others did, Zeke loves to lay in the centre of it watching me work at the kitchen table. Although in the picture above I came back outside to find him in my chair!

I took Zeke to a dogs allowed camping shop to see the tents on display outside. It was quiet enough for some impromptu training, and I was able to let him have a good sniff around. I used some treats to get him going in and out of the tents, still on his lead. I imagine it’s a little strange when you don’t really know what they are for. All good for getting ready for our holidays though. I do also need to get him back into his life jacket and on the Dock’s water taxi to get used to being on a boat again, I don’t know where the time goes.

If it gets warmer and you’re looking for some cooling enrichment for your dog, I found a novel freezable treat dispenser online. It’s called a Toppl Treat Toy, and Zeke has the large size. The XL is probably big enough for humans! You can buy stoppers to slow down the food consumption, but as I freeze them, I didn’t bother buying those. They’re made in the USA, but you can find them in the UK online.

I personally wouldn’t use a Toppl without supervision, especially if your dog is a robust chewer. The black Kong is probably better for you in this case, although even those aren’t indestructible.

Enjoy the sunshine 😎🐶

Until next time
